Local artist and author Corina Duyn has reached her target of raising €3,200 through public crowd funding, allowing her to publish her book-in-a-box ‘Into the Light’ this September.
The Lismore resident, who suffers from ME/CFS – a chronic fatigue and immune dysfunction syndrome – created Into the Light to share what it is like to live with an illness and provide moral support to others with illnesses.
“Into the Light is a book-in-a-box with loose sheets which are a feast for the eyes,” she told The Avondhu. “Each sheet has a large illustration of an artwork or a nature photograph, and a lone line sentence by another author. The reverse has a very short description about life with a chronic illness or disability.
The observations can be of support to anyone with an illness or disability as they might feel 'I am not alone'. Or they can be of benefit to society as an eye-opener to learn of our realities. Many observations are applicable to any of life's challenges. They range from fear, hope, acceptance, personal challenges and society’s opinions, to moments of gratitude.”
Following the success of the crowd funding project, completed via www.fundit.ie, the book-in-a-box will be launched and published in September, first on Sunday, September 6 at Dzogchen Beara, at the Dechen Shying Care Centre in West Cork, where the book in its current format was conceived, and then in Lismore Library on Thursday, September 24, which will include an exhibition of Corina’s previous works.
