Renowned guitarist Pat Coldrick, come to The Village Arts Centre, Kilworth on Friday, July 3 for what will be the fifth concert in this year's North Cork Classical Music series.
Pat Coldrick is ultimately a classical guitarist but not in the sense that you or I think classical. He has taken this field of music to another level altogether!! While Pat plays his own arrangements of great modern pieces like 'Desperado' and 'Classical Gas', the huge greats like 'Passacaglia' and 'Asturias', the love songs like 'A Time for Us' and 'Autumn Leaves', it is Pat’s own compositions that set him miles apart.
One of his new pieces 'Antarctica', is a major ground breaking composition that has been making waves in the music industry! Another wonderful piece is the well known song 'Lament' which has been played all over the world and is deemed a classic in its own right.
Pat’s skillful and atmospheric connection with his audience is an art form in itself. It is like no other classical performance in this country. His very easy going, laid back and unassuming approach, his interaction with his audience and his philosophy of 'entertaining rather than educating' is a breath of fresh air. However, it is easy to be misled by this approach. As Pat starts to play, one can see the dedication, passion and skill, his deliverance of each piece, his superb ability as a player and performer, the ability to make us laugh and equally move us to tears!
Coldrick has performed on the Late Late Show, the IFTA awards, two sell out concerts at the National Concert Hall and most recently performed with the Degani Ensemble with leader Alan Smale, leader of the RTE National Symphony Orchestra. Pat has performed at concerts in Slovenia, Austria, France and the US. He has played at many country house recitals, corporate events, festivals and many venues throughout the country, including very popular dinner and concert recitals.
Pat has a huge internet fan base also, with constant comments and reviews on his face book page and you tube. His performance of 'Danza Paraguaya' has over 200,000 views - a feat that is phenomenal for Irish classical guitar.
His album 'Cayendo', has been featured in many international guitar magazines and other media, and is played regularly on many national stations. He is at present recording his second album which has some monumental pieces including many of his own compositions!
