On Wednesday night next (July 1), Mitchelstown Parish Church will play host to the 70 piece Cork Concert Orchestra, with the beautiful voice of soprano, Kim Sheehan. The recital comes under the title of 'Mozart to Morricone' - classical music in the Movies'.

The orchestra, under conductor Tom Doyle, will bring us some of the better known classical music from the silver screen. Allow yourself to be transported with pieces like Magcagni’s Cavelleria Rusticana which was famously used in 'The Godfather' and Mozart’s overture from 'The Marriage of Figaro' which has featured in many movies over the years. You will also be treated to music from the most famous of movie composers, Ennio Morricone with the theme music from 'Once Upon A Time In America'.

KIM SHEEHAN

Soprano Kim Sheehan has sung in Germany, Switzerland, the UK and her home country of Ireland and has worked with such established companies as the Royal Opera House, Zürich Opera House, Opera North, Grange Park Opera, Garsington Festival Opera, NI Opera and Wexford Festival. A real treat in store.

This recital is made possible thanks to the co-operation of Canon Michael Fitzgerald, PP Mitchelstown and is being promoted by North Cork Classical Music with the kind support and sponsorship of Cork County Council's Arts Office under Mr Ian McDonagh.

The good news also is that ticket prices for this event have been held at just €15 each and are now on sale at Hyland's Bookshop, Mitchelstown (025-24528); in Fermoy at The Avondhu office (025-32227), in Kilworth at Cotter's Bar (025-27109 from 5pm daily), from Jane Annesley on 022-26257, from Liam Howard on 087-6780183 or call Maureen on 087-6492514.
