The famous saying that 'time flies when you';re having fun' is very true for the members of Kilworth Dramatic Society as they put the finishing touches to this year's eagerly awaited production.
Last year, the group had the audience is stitches with their performance of 'A Wake In The West'. If you were fortunate enough to have seen it, wait until you see this year's production of 'The Real McCoy', written by Mayo man Tommy Marren.
The play is set in the Molloy household in the 1960s over a period of 24 hours. Madge Molloy (Trisa Coughlan) had been married to Tom Molloy (Liam Kenny) but unfortunately, for some reason, he left without trace shortly after. She was left to bring up her daughter Maura (Carmel Quirke) on her own. maura is in a relationship with the local postman Martin Daly (John Murphy) who wants to marry her. But there are many obstacles thrown in their path, it seems highly unlikely they will make it up the aisle - or will they?
Where would the play be without nosey neighbours (and God help Madge Molloy but she has two of the nosiest). Nora and Cora O'Hora are played by Collette Sheehan and Margaret McCarthy. They like helping out the parsih by sticking their unwanted noses into matters that do not concern them. Their day is made with the arrival of Fr Michael McCoy (Brian Carey)who is a temporary appointee until a new PP is appointed.
But what is going to happen? Will Maura and Martin ever get married? Will Madge ever find out what happened to her husband who had disappeared without trace for 43 years? Yes, there are lots of questions to be answered. Unfortunately, this is where the report ends so you will have to come and see 'The Real McCoy' for yourself to find out the answers.
The production, by Mick Twomey, will be performed over the next two weekends, commencing this Friday in the community hall (alongside St Martin's Church) at 8.15pm nightly.
The opening night is in aid of the Parents' Association of Scoil Mhairtín. Come along for a rip-roaring night of laughter and drama!
