The new GAA complex in Ballylanders held its first fashion show last Saturday night with a fine crowd attending what was a well organised event.

No surprise that women accounted for 99% of the audience who saw some cutting edge fashion modelled by locally recruited volunteers. A range of businesses rowed in behind the venture, which was a fundraiser for the village park in Ballylanders.

Shops that supplied clothing, footwear, hats and accessories included: Tippe Canoe, Limerick; Suzsa, Mitchelstown; Swamp, Limerick; Antoinette's Hats & Accessories, Limerick; Caroline Mitchell Knitwear, Limerick; Vanilla, Fermoy; Raspberry Red, Bruff and No 15 La Maison du Curio in Limerick.

The men folk were pressed into service during the pre-show drinks reception and everyone was well looked after. MC, DJ and compère for the event was Don Andrews who has obviously done this of show many times before.

He was word perfect for the entire two and half hours and was instrumental in the smooth running of the event. Locally, the main driving force was business woman Mairead Hayes who, along with a dedicated committee, did most of the running around which is all part and parcel of this type of fundraiser.

The interval raffle was well supported and patrons were also treated to some old style farming fashion, courtesy of some entertaining characters. The suitability of the venue must also be noted and the hope is that more events of this scale (and even bigger) will be hosted here in the future.
