It doesn't seem that long ago when Kildorrery were 'a handy junior hurling team' - that was then, this is now. Having mastered the best in their division (Avondhu), county (Cork) and now province (Munster) the Kildorrery hurling band wagon is gathering a momentum that supporters hope will propel them to a place in an All-Ireland final. All that's for 2013, now is about savouring the moment as players look forward to 'Santie' safe in the knowledge they've made their own bit of hurling history.
For 'famous Kildorrery town' a beautiful pattern is beginning to develop - the team travels in hope, supporters are bursting with anticipation, the opposition is strong, the game could go either way, Peter O'Brien gets an all important goal, the wind is now in Kildorrery's sail, they finish strong, the referee's whistle goes - more glory for the boys in blue and white.
Winning they say is a habit and it's beginning to look like an addiction for Jimmy Quilty's side who have simply got better with every outing since crushing Glanworth in this year's North Cork final. It's a fantastic feeling for the players, but almost better for supporters, even better still for young supporters who attend Kildorrery National School - the nursery for so much of their talent.
Following a night of 'full on' celebrations, a veritiable army of officials, mentors and die-hard fans headed for Kildorrery N.S on Monday morning for yet another racous reception from estatic youngsters. With everyone decked out in the new Walsh's Corner House jerseys and club hoodies it's easy to see why sales of merchanise has gone through the roof. There seems to be no let up with orders coming in from as far away as America, Australia, New Zealand and even South Africa.
NATIONAL SCHOOL CALENDAR

Mention of selling brings us on to the not insignificant matter of the 2013 Kildorrery National School calendar - a fundraising venture by members of Kildorrery National School Parents' Association. Chairperson, Ann Jackson and Jennifer O'Mahony availed of the opportunity presented last Monday to launch the calendar which features pictures of every student in the school. It's a well presented, attractively laid out publication that, hopefully, will hang proudly in every home in the parish.
Which in turns leads us to 2013 - a year when the bold men from the hill will attempt to go where no Kildorrery team has gone in the past - there is of course the threat posed by Kilkenny opposition but when you have fans who will follow you to the end of the world, Peter O'Brien in your side and a dream in your heart, it's really the opposition who should be worrying.
