A sign alerting walkers coming from the Lady Louisa Walk in Lismore to the danger of passing traffic is to be considered. An alternative exit is also to be examined to alleviate the danger.

The matter was raised at the Joint Policing Committee meeting in the town on Monday night by Cllr Orla Russell who mentioned the swing gate. Cllr Davy Whelan pointed out that that particular gate cannot be touched.

“People walking know not to walk out without looking and juveniles shouldn’t be there on their own,” he said.

Cllr Bernard Leddy said he walks there twice a week. He thought a sign alerting people to look left and right was warranted, particularly for visitors unaware of the danger. It should be erected on the wall opposite and should be in more than one language, he felt. It was agreed to have the engineer look into it.
