Celebrating World Down Syndrome Day 2013 at the Sports Village, Model Farm Road, Cork were, left to right, Emer Dineen, Ballincollig; Cian Richardson, Togher; Siún Marron, Glanmire and Mark O'Leary, Rochestown. Today, Thursday, March 21, marks the 8th anniversary of World Down Syndrome Day, a global awareness day which has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012. It is estimated that there are approximately 7,000 people with Down syndrome In Ireland. One baby with Down syndrome is born out of every 546 births.
