One weekend down and one to go and Glanworth Players were delighted with the reception they received at Glanworth Community Centre with their presentation of 'Same Old Moon' by Geraldine Aron last weekend.
The scene was set from the start when Susan Hanrahan arrived on stage playing the part of Brenda Barnes. She wants to be an aspiring writer and we witness her life from a young age where we meet up with family and friends as she moves through life. Brenda struggles to win the affections of her father Desmond (played by Tim Roche) who wished for a boy and her mother Bridie (played by Amy Murphy) who also struggles to keep on side with her difficult sister in law, Peace (played by Mary O'Neill).
Brenda moves to Galway for a short period and stays with her granny, played by Marian O'Callaghan. She also meets the irrepressible Bella Rafferty (Avril Vickery) and gets a rounded education from the mother superior (Helen Moloney).
Brenda’s family move to England in search of a better life, but things don’t go smoothly and they end up being evicted by Mr Mullen, played by John Aherne. With time spent in a poorhouse, things improve for the Barnes family when Desmond gets a job and they move to a new home. Brenda meets Mark (Eddie O'Brien) and together they move first to Rhodesia and then to Australia.
Near the end of the play we see Brenda returning to London to visit her sick father and to see if she will get some answers to questions that have plagued her throughout her life.
With appearances by Brenda’s cousin Kevin (David Leahy), playground bully (D J Flynn) and the local barman (Mike O'Sullivan), there are plenty of interesting characters to keep you interested throughout!
Come to Glanworth this weekend to find out if Brenda finds the answers she is looking for. You are guaranteed an entertaining evening. Final three performances this Friday (12th) at 8.30pm, Saturday (13th) 9pm and Sunday 14th April (8pm).
