When Paddy Anthony O’Donoghue of Corderry near Galbally was recently coping with scarce fodder provision for his cattle, he took some time to show his daughter Katie how it was ‘in my father’s time’.

Paddy like most farmers in the South Tipperary/East Limerick and North Cork regions has been finding that the very cold weather this spring has created a great demand for extra fodder and was pleased this week to experience a softening of the weather and much-wanted rainfall to nourish the spring seeds.

His daughter Katie, having a quick eye for a photo opportunity, snapped her dad in a pose reminiscent of the fifties ‘long, long before her time’.

Paddy, a staunch Tipperary man, was borrowing a beart of hay from his neighbour and he quipped to Kate ““Hard times will come again no more”, encapsulating thoughts on the recession and also the scarce fodder.

Hard times again but nonetheless, he is looking forward to a new season of Tipperary hurling and maybe Katie, his photographer, will spot a goal or two going between the posts.
