More than 180 cyclists took to pedal power on Sunday, June 9, as people cycled in the blazing sun to raise money for Kilbehenny Community Centre in the first annual fundraising cycle by Kilbehenny Cycling Club.

The club's Vice Chairman, Kieran Caplice, told The Avondhu, that more than 120 cyclists took part in the 80km cycle, while more took part in the 50km option and the 15km family fun cycle was a great way for young families to get involved and enjoy the day. Refreshments, sandwiches, tea, coffee and buns were a welcome treat for the tired cyclists upon their return.

"The pace was fairly quick most of the way around, but the breeze was nice which meant the heat wasn't too bad. The hill at Christ the King was a challenge to everyone, but we all conquered it all the same," Kieran said.

Moss Fitzgerald said that the weather made the day, adding that on behalf of the Kilbehenny Community Centre, he wished to thank the cycling club for organising the fundraiser and everyone who helped out and supported it.

He added that Limerick beating Tipperary on the day was the icing on the cake, as many of the cyclists recovered from their long trip in the Three Counties Bar, while watching the exciting match.

Works on the community centre are now near completion, as a lot of volunteers are helping out with the cleaning and painting and the money raised from the cycle will go towards the finishing touches on the new community centre.
