As the end of year event for Shanballymore NS approaches, excitement is building as they prepare to welcome a very special mystery guest.
Last year, Crystal Swing visited the school and presented the children with various awards before performing some songs on stage. Principal, Michael O'Sullivan, told The Avondhu that the atmosphere on the night was incredible and he is hopeful that this year's event promises to be just as spectacular.
"Our special guest of honour has just confirmed that they will be joining us for our celebrations. This will be another first for the people of Shanballymore as another famous personality comes to the village. The school is remaining silent once again with regards to the identity of this person, but we promise that another a great night will be had by all.
"The pressure was on this year to find someone who could follow on the success of last years event with Crystal Swing, but I think we can safely say that we have accomplished this," Michael told The Avondhu.
The night will kick off with a special Mass which will be celebrated in the local Church by Fr Gerard Condon. Immediately following the mass all are welcome to the school hall for the annual awards ceremony where the schools successes over the past year will be celebrated.
The senior children will also be launching the new edition of the school newsletter on the night and this has become very popular not only for students and parents, but for people in the wider community and it will be available in the Post Office free of charge after the launch.
Sixth class pupils Elena Gould, Niamh Roche and Emily Halinan, who make up the smallest class group in the school will also be leaving their national school days behind them and the Principal wished them all the very best in secondary school.
"The school population is set to grow dramatically once again this year with 12 pupils now enrolled for September. However we are delighted to announce that our small classe sizes will be retained once again with an average of just 21 pupils to a teacher. The national average is 28 pupils to one teacher so our school will continue to offer a small country village atmosphere. The children in here know each other by name, they are like a big family who watch out for one another," Michael said.
The day for the end of year is yet to be confirmed, but present pupils and those enrolled for 2013 will be notified by the school with the final confirmed details and anyone wishing to enroll in the school for the coming year can contact 022-25611.
