Over the last couple of months a tremendous effort has gone into fundraising and planning for the development of the playground and multi-use games area in Ballyhooly Community Sportsfield and all interested parties will be delighted to note that Walsh Engineering has commenced works in the past week.

A playground has long been on the wish list for Ballyhooly community along with other projects, which have been completed in the recent past, including refurbishment of the community hall and An Cuan, the sheltered housing scheme, etc. This playground and multi-use games area project has secured considerable funding from grant aid, generous benefactors and local clubs, however, the fundraising conducted locally by a wide spectrum of committee members and enthusiastic volunteers led by chairman, Liam Dineen, was the most impressive with a door-to-door collection yielding over €25,000.

All members of the Ballyhooly community, past and present are to be highly commended for this exceptional generosity in these challenging times. The project is due to conclude in September which will yield the Ballyhooly community a first class recreational and leisure facility for all ages and abilities augmenting the existing GAA pitches, tennis courts and changing rooms, all surrounded by a floodlit walkway which is availed of by young and old in a safe and secure environment.

For health and safety reasons a portion of the walkway will be closed for the duration of the development work. Thankfully the walkway will be preserved fully once the works are completed. With a small deficit in funds for the completion of the project, if there is anybody who would like to donate funds, please contact Liam Dineen or any member of the committee: Jim McCarthy, Pat O’Connor, Majella Roche, Pete Sykes, Joanne Roche, Brian McCarthy, Mike Dineen, Lisa Woods, Therese Holland, Brenda Crowley, Tom Collier and Denis Hickey.

The committee would like to thank everybody for their patience, generosity and support in the realisation of this project for Ballyhooly community.
