Two new benches have been gifted to the residents of Wolfe Tone Park in Fermoy, courtesy of the local Men's Shed group.

"There had planned to put in the extra seating here but never got round to it. I was working here one day and noticed that they could do with some extra seating," David Gahan of Fermoy Men's Shed explained.

The council supplied the gravel and patio slabs for the job and the Men's Shed made the benches, dug out the area and installed them. Strong and durable, they've been painted a bright green colour to match other seating in the green area in front of the houses.

ENHANCEMENT

The long established estate, which enjoys a great community spirit, was recently named 'Best residential area in the North East' in the 'Fermoy - A Cleaner Town' initiative. "The seating will enhance the green area," David Gahan said.

The Men's Shed have been in existence in Fermoy for a year now and have completed a number of projects and been involved in various initiatives to benefit the local community.
