A picnic area outside Fermoy on the N8, below the former FCI factory will go unused if signage is not erected. This was the argument of Cllr Noel McCarthy at the Fermoy area meeting, where he was told that funds are currently not available for this.

He argued that if the council are trying to highlight the area as one for people to use as a picnic area, they have to encourage them with signage to let them know it’s there.

“We have gone to so much trouble to put it up to a high standard. It’s very safe out there, but if we don’t put signage up, all the work we’ve done is nearly a waste of time,” he said.

Cllr Frank O’Flynn added that this is in a nice quiet area outside Fermoy.

Engineer Brendan O’Gorman told the councillors that the keyword was that money isn’t ‘currently’ available. He said that the council have already spent money on this project this year, but that there is a possibility that funding would be available next year for signage.
