Fermoy mayor Olive Corcoran, this week complimented Cork County Council on the new footpaths installed in the estate where she lives.

She had complained previously about the condition of the footpaths in the Cairn Court estate, pointing out that many elderly people lived there and the poor condition of the pavements posed a safety risk for them.

She's now delighted with the new footpaths and commended the council and especially area engineer Brendan O'Gorman 'for doing a great job'.

The mayor said she'd been approached by other people who are seeking to have footpaths repaired or new ones installed in their estates. She wanted to make it clear that the footpaths in her estate were done, not because she is mayor but because she and residents had campaigned for a long time to get the work done.

She said others who want similar works done must lobby the council and keep the pressure on until the work is done.
