There have been ongoing problems in Ard Abhainn in Ballyhooly with water pressure and since the problem was fixed last week, the residents are now calling for some sort of assurance that it won’t keep recurring.

Resident Seamus Curtin spoke to councillors at the Fermoy area meeting about how they have had ongoing problems over the years and while the problem seems to be gone now, they want to know whether or not it will last.

Cllr Noel McCarthy who brought Seamus in through a deputation, outlined that a lot of work has been done by the council in the past 12 months thanks to Pat Walsh, but that being left with poor water and sometimes no water at all is very hard on people, particularly those with young families.

Seamus produced records from December 2010 right up to August of this year, as well as a petition signed by all residents. He asked that they be notified if there was going to be any break in the water, if possible.

Cllr Frank O’Flynn pointed out that the council cannot give a guarantee on water pressure and he was under the impression that the problem was solved, but Cllr McCarthy argued that the residents have been told before that the problem was gone, only for it to reoccur again.

A full report on the work done so far and the problems encountered will be made available at the next meeting in October, so that the residents have something in writing.
