When former Presentation Primary school pupil, David Roche, got his Junior Cert results on Wednesday last, one of the first people to congratulate him was Mayor Olive Corcoran.

David's Mum Bernadette says that when David started primary school she was informed he had learning difficulties and might be better off in a facility for students with special needs. But, she says, Olive Corcoran was his teacher and with her help and encouragement during his time with her, David settled in to become a very good student. He's now a student at St Colman's College.

Proof of just how well he's done, came last Thursday when David got his Junior Cert results and found that he'd achieved six As, 3 Bs and 2 Cs in his 11 subjects - all done at higher level.

Olive met with David and his mother at the Presentation Primary School, from which the Mayor has since retired, to congratulate David and wish him well.

"I'm delighted that with support and encouragement David has come on so well. He has a bright future ahead of him," the Mayor said. She paid tribute to David's mother for her unstinting support for her son throughout his school years. "All children can achieve to their full potential with encouragement and help," the Mayor added.
