Network Ireland Cork is proud to announce a bold sustainability initiative as part of its flagship annual event — the Network Cork Businesswoman of the Year Awards 2025 — taking place on Thursday, 22nd May at the Radisson Hotel and Spa, Little Island, Cork.
In a first for the event, this year’s celebration will have a strong environmental focus, reflecting Network Cork’s commitment to leading with purpose. The branch is actively tracking and offsetting its Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions, and taking meaningful steps towards understanding and reducing Scope 3 emissions, aiming to host one of the most sustainable business awards ceremonies in the country.
As part of this year’s efforts, the event will feature locally sourced food and drink showcasing the best of Cork’s producers, helping to reduce the event’s carbon footprint while supporting local enterprise. Guests will also be invited to pre-order their meals in advance, allowing the Radisson Hotel Cork to minimise food waste and streamline service with sustainability in mind.
Additionally, the venue will be tracking energy usage throughout the evening and measuring waste generated, ensuring data-driven progress toward future event improvements.
“We’re proud to make strides toward a carbon-neutral event,” said Cathy Fitzgibbon, President of Network Cork. “These women represent a powerful shift in how we do business – with heart, innovation and a deep sense of responsibility to people and planet. We warmly invite the wider business community to join us in honouring their achievements and the values they represent.”
Guests are encouraged to join in the sustainability effort by selecting a carbon offset ticket option, with contributions supporting biodiversity initiatives within Cork city. Additionally, attendees are invited to wear their best pre-loved or thrifted outfits – a stylish and conscious nod to circular fashion.
Transport to the event is also getting a green makeover. Thanks to sponsorship from Cronin’s Coaches, a shuttle bus will run from Cork City Hall, encouraging guests to travel together and reduce their environmental impact. Cronin’s Coaches has long been a champion of sustainable travel and the company’s founder, Nora Cronin, was one of the original trailblazers who helped establish Network Cork 42 years ago.
MC for the evening is Elaine Duggan, journalist, editor, and An Taisce Climate Ambassador for 2025. With more than 25 years in media and a recent focus on climate communications, Elaine brings both gravitas and passion to this year’s proceedings.
