On Monday next, October 21, at 8pm in Galbally Community Centre, the next community text alert meeting will take place and people are urged to attend in large numbers.

The recent meetings have been very successful and at this week's meeting, it was decided between people from Galbally and Aherlow that the two areas would use the same texting service and be a joined initiative. The county council have also kindly offered to erect ten signs in the Galbally area free of charge.

The next step is to finalise the details of the system, which will be done at the meeting on Monday and then people will be approached by neighbours and people they know to sign up.

Jim Fitzgerald told The Avondhu that in the lead up to setting up the text alert system, these meetings should be raising people's awareness about being alert and vigilant to anything strange or suspicious.

He said that people in Galbally should be watching out for each other and only answering the door to people they know and if someone that they don't know approaches them at their home, they should contact Bruff Garda Station on 061-382940.

Jim added that Garda Natasha Walsh has been very involved in the whole process of setting up the text alert and has attended each meeting and her boyfriend, also a member of the Gardai, has also been very helpful.
