Members of the public have until April 10th if they wish to provide input to the public consultation on the Cork Northern Distributor Road.

The proposed new road is 14 kilometres long, from Glanmire in the eastern end to Carrigrohane Road in the west, crossing the northern side of Cork City via Hollyhill, Dublin Hill and Banduff.

Cork City Council said the planned route would unlock zoned land on the north side of Cork City for future residential and commercial development, enhancing the attractiveness of the area for investment.

KEY ELEMENT OF INFRASTRUCTURE

Fianna Fáil TD Pádraig O’Sullivan has welcomed the opening of the public consultation and is encouraging people to make their submissions before the deadline of April 10th.

“I’m pleased that this preferred route for this long-awaited road is now open for public consultation,” the Cork North Central TD said. “This important road will improve connectivity, improve journey times for all road users and it will create dedicated walking and cycling lanes. I would encourage everyone to examine the proposal and have their say on the matter.”

The route is a key element to delivering the Cork Metropolitan Area Transport Strategy (CMATS), which was published in 2020 and identified the need for this east-west route on the north side of Cork city.
