There were doubts cast earlier this week that any member of the public had ever been turned away from a GAA match for not having an online ticket, as the matter of cash and its absence at Cork GAA matches was discussed once more.
Members of Cork County Council had met with the secretary of Cork GAA, Caoimhín Ó Donnabháin and chairman, Pat Horgan in early December on the matter; in early 2022 the organisation implemented a cashless system at games, which has been criticised at multiple opportunities for being ageist, and impinging on freedoms of currency choice. A letter followed this meeting, which councillors discussed publicly at Monday’s Cork County Council meeting.
The letter from Mr Ó Donnabháin did not concede to accepting cash at games, but said that they accepted that cashless ticketing ‘provides a challenge’.
