Mitchelstown goes international this Christmas

The Fermoy International Choir, set to perform in Mitchelstown.

30 different nationalities singing in almost as many languages will lift the spirits in Saint George’s Arts and Heritage Centre this Christmas for what is being billed as the most international performance ever seen in Mitchelstown. This Saturday, 14th December sees the final concert of the 2024 season for Saint George’s Arts and Heritage Centre.

The 224-year-old former church that has been transformed into an arts centre over the past five years, will host the Fermoy International Choir for what is going to be a really special Christmas performance. The choir has over sixty members from thirty countries from as far away as Ukraine, Madagascar, Iran, South Africa, Poland and a host of other countries around the world.

One of the highlights of the night will be the singing of Phil Coulter’s ‘Steal Away’ by four Ukrainian members of the choir. Phil recorded the song in recent times with the Ukrainian community in Ireland, singing some of the song in the Ukrainian language.
