We've all heard of the cancer fundraiser 'Shave or Dye' but here's a novel event, also for a cancer charity, that invites people to GROW, rather than shed, hair.

For the month of November, the Abbey Bar in Fermoy is raising money to help combat prostrate and testicular cancer, and they're asking people to grow a moustache for the 30 days. Women will be relieved to hear they aren't expected to sprout facial hair but instead are encouraged to get a friend, brother, husband or even father involved!

Reggie Sweetnam of the Abbey Bar says the idea is also to raise awareness in men of the importance of regularly checking themselves. He's hoping that, by those taking part being asked why they're suddenly growing a moustache, and them explaining the reason, people will talk more openly about the two diseases.

The Abbey Bar will provide the sponsor cards and, at the end of the month, the plan is to get everyone together in the bar, admire the best efforts, slag the worst, see how much has been raised and celebrate with drinks and food. Now that sounds like a fun event to brighten the dullest November days!

Anyone who would like to get involved can drop by the bar and pick up a sponsorship card or check SG1's Facebook page for more information.
