The graduation night held at Mallow G.A.A. Complex, last Thursday, October 24, which was attended by the CEO of Cork Education and Training Board, Mr Ted Owens. Deputy Mayor Dan Joe Fitzgerald, Mr Noel O'Connor who is president of the ETBL, Mayor of Cork County, Mallow councillor and member of the Cork Education Training Board, Roisin Lucey, Ronan Sheehan, Jerry Mullally, members of Mallow Town Council, Mallow College of Further Education board of management, including chairman Tadhg O'Donovan were in attendance.
Mallow College principal Denis Healy congratulated the class of 2013 on their achievements. "It is a special day for the students and their families. Achieving certification for further study is an important milestone for these students. Mallow College is mindful of its role in ensuring that well-qualified and skilled graduates are prepared to enter the world of work or progress to further study.
"The various disciplines in which our students are graduating offer genuine routes to employment and higher education and we wish our graduates every success. I also salute the committed and talented teaching staff that has contributed so much to the students' achievements."
Marie Coughlan co-ordinator of the graduation ceremony said "In 2002, only 50 students were enrolled in Mallow College of Further Education. Today the total number of students is 520. 2002 was also the year Denis Healy was appointed principal of Mallow College of Further Education and Davis College. Since his appointment, Denis has guided both colleges through a decade of huge growth and success. Today, Mallow College is the largest provider of further education in the North Cork region, offering a wide variety of different courses to a diverse student body."
Certificates were awarded in FETAC Level 5 and 6 City & Guilds, ITEC, ECDL, CIBTEC and Senior Trades, with 320 students approximately graduating on the night. The band Immune followed by a DJ, with the graduate students from the Sound Engineering course the entertainers, brought the evening to a lively end.
