Locals are warned not to become alarmed if they see a lot more bearded men than usual walking around Ballynoe for the month of November. As they'll explain, it's all in a good cause.

Three local businesses in Ballynoe have come together to participate in this year's national Movember initiative to raise awareness of men's health. Tom O'Donnell of T&A Plant Hire is being joined by Tom Jones, Brian Maguire and Barrie Regan. Ballynoe Agri's Eddie O'Keefe and Noel Kielthy of Auto Door Engineering Ltd., along with local man James Fitzgerald are all taking part as well in the Movember challenge to grow a moustache or beard for the 30 days of the month, thereby changing their appearance and the face of men's health by raising awareness of prostrate and testicular cancer and mental health.

One of the men though is being given a special dispensation to finish early. The exception is being made for Tom Jones who is getting married at the end of the month and may have to have his beard shaved off before the wedding to be clean shaven for the big event! The lads wish him the best of luck.

Donations can be made directly to any of the men for this worthwhile cause. A fundraising night for the shave off will be arranged and advertised near the end of the month. It'll be held in Ballynoe.

So feel free to give plenty of encouragement - and better still donations - to the hairy men of Ballynoe, should you encounter them any time during Movember.
