The Gaiety School of Acting – The National Theatre School of Ireland, have launched the Shakespeare Schools Programme in association with CleverNotes.ie for Transition Year, Leaving and Junior Certificate students. This programme will be running in The Granary Theatre, Mardyke, Cork from 20th to 24th January 2014 and Garter Lane Theatre, Waterford from 27th-29th of January.
Kate Canning told The Avondhu this week that the programme is designed to directly address the Shakespeare question in the English Junior and Leaving Certificate papers.
"There is also a Transition Year Programme designed to engage students with the works of Shakespeare by exploring text and staging in a creative, fun and alternative manner," she said.
The full day programme will include a full performance of Macbeth and Romeo & Juliet followed by a post-performance workshop which will explore specific Leaving and Junior Certificate questions. Each workshop will also include text analysis, role-play, physical inter-play and Mask Orientation making it a fun and interactive workshop for every student.
Clevernotes.ie, a subsidiary of Folens Educational Publishers, have supplied an in-depth workbook for the Shakespeare Schools Programme. The workbook will also be made available as a download for teachers and students on clevernotes.ie.
This programme is unique as it is open to Transition Year, Leaving and Junior Cert students at the same time and will be run during the day to suit school timetables and travel arrangements. This workshop aims to bring Shakespeare to life through multimedia and interactive features and has been written, designed and prepared by experienced teachers to provide effective revision for the Shakespeare question.
The programme only costs €18 per student and teachers are complimentary. For more information or to book, just call 01-6799277 or email kate.canning@gaietyschool.com.
