Traditional Irish music is part of our culture, history and heritage, and to keep that part of Irish identity strong and to make sure it thrives, a group of first years from Presentation Secondary School in Mitchelstown have set up a trad group.

Under the direction of music teacher Marie Lineen, the group have performed at a number of events recently, including in Mitchelstown Credit Union for National Credit Union Day, at various school events and they will also be performing at the upcoming carol service for the school.

Ms Lineen said that the group are very enthusiastic and they all love it. They practice weekly coming up to events and their teacher said that it is a great way to mix a hobby with school life.

"It's lovely to have something that is a little bit different at events as well," she said.
