Organisers of the inaugural Fermoy Film Festival can take considerable satisfaction from the public's very favourable reaction to last weekend's cinematic offerings.

At the height of silver screen popularity, Fermoy boasted two excellent cinema houses, The Ormond and The Palace - if everything goes well the intention is to bring back the big screen to Fermoy in the not too distant future.

The goal of Fermoy Film Festival was to re-ignite interest in the celluloid experience and it certainly scored on this front. A fine crowd turned out for last Friday night's wine reception which set a most convivial tone for an evening of film that featured Frank Morgan's award winning 'Old Grumpy And Mary B' followed by 'Silence' by Pat Collins.

Saturday's programme included 'Finding Nemo', 'Promised Land', 'Breakfast At Tiffany's' and 'The Big Labowski' - on Sunday patrons were treated to 'Scott Pilgrim Vs The World', 'The Other Side', 'Searching For Sugarman' and an interesting selection of Irish short films.

The film festival committee put in a huge effort in the run up to last weekend and Ron Hulshof, Jim Lysaght, Ciaran Neligan, Kieran Barry, Cathal O'Meara along with Frank and Breeda Morgan deserve great praise for their energy and initiative.

The committee were fortunate to have secured generous sponsorship from Hanley's Newsagents and Frank Morgan Studios - organizers also wish to thank Rebecca Roche for her input and Fermoy Print & Design for their help with posters, tickets and festival programmes.
