A birthday party turned into a real celebration, thanks to Fermoy woman Michele Callanan. To celebrate her 50th birthday, Michele had a party at The Wagon Tavern. An open invitation was issued ensuring a good crowd joined her family and friends on the night to help her celebrate the milestone birthday.

Michele, who works in the autism unit at the Presentation Primary School, operated a 'presence not presents' policy for the party, asking people to donate to two charities instead of bringing along a gift for her.

The two charities benefitting from her kind gesture and the generous donations of all who attended, are Down Syndrome Cork and the Saturday club for children with special needs, SNAP, which Michele has been involved with for the past 10 years. The amount raised was split evenly between both, with each receiving €410.

Michele this week thanked all those who donated.
