Fermoy is exceptionally well served when it comes to second level schools and all invest considerable time and energy in their respective open days.
Loreto Secondary School, Fermoy held their open day on Monday afternoon last (25th November) and a substantial crowd attended - all eager to get a close up of facilities in this progressive establishment. As is always the case, a very warm welcome was extended to visitors who were supplied with plenty of useful information.
In advance of the open day, representatives from Loreto would have visited local national schools to give them a run down on what they can expect once they leave their national school days behind them. Aware that it's an entirely different scenario, Loreto goes to great length to facilitate this change and with the co-operation of teachers and youth leaders (fellow pupils), the transition is usually a smooth one.
Loreto is first and foremost a seat of learning where students are prepared for important state examinations and the school has an outstanding record of high academic achievement; while this isn't the end all and be all of secondary school life, there's no doubt that results and the all important points play a key role in determining a student's career path.
Invariably, past pupils from Loreto progress to third level - all well equipped to deal with the rigors of universities and colleges.
Prospective students are reminded that their application forms need to be returned by Thursday, 12 December. Further information on request, by contacting the school on 025-32124.
