Former Fermoy garage owner makes biggest settlement in the country to revenue

Former company director, John (Joseph) McCarthy of McCarthy Motors in Fermoy has settled with Revenue to the tune of €6.2m.

Former company director, John (Joseph) McCarthy of McCarthy Motors in Fermoy has settled with Revenue to the tune of €6.2m owned in undeclared income tax, unpaid Capital Gains Tax and stamp duty, interest and penalties.  

The retired company director, formerly of Strawhall, Fermoy, made the largest settlement in the country.

The information was released on Tuesday along with the quarterly list of defaulters, covering the third quarter of the year, the period from July 1st to September 30th.

The amount was made up of €2.4M of undeclared income tax, unpaid Capital Gains Tax and stamp duty, with interest added of €1.5M and a further whopping €2.2M added in penalties.
