The latest newcomer to Ireland’s SUV market is the new 5-seat EQE SUV – the all-electric sports utility version of the acclaimed E-Class and EQE saloon.
It comes in rear-wheel and all-wheel-drive versions within a range that includes two performance-oriented Mercedes-AMG versions. Key features include:
MODEL CHOICE
Consists of a 180kW entry-level EQE 300, an EQE 350 4MATIC, EQE 500 4MATIC, and two Mercedes-AMG EQE variants. In Ireland, the focus of interest will likely fall on the entry-level 180kW EQE 300 model which comes on the market from €98,780.
RANGE
In standard models, a range of up to 590km can be expected from its lithium-ion battery, depending on equipment and load configuration. Outputs from 180 to 300 kW are available within the range.
SPACIOUS INTERIOR
Visually aligned with the slightly larger EQS variant, the EQE SUV will appeal to discerning owners seeking a more roomy interior. Head, leg and elbow room, and 5-seat capacity, make it one of the most spacious representatives in its class.
COMFORT
MBUX infotainment and driver assistance functions are accessible via an elegant centre console and wide, panoramic glass-covered instrument panel whose high-tech features include sound, air control and feel-good comfort features adjustable to the mood or needs of passengers. Standard is a heat pump that captures waste heat from its electric drive to heat the interior.
SAFETY
To the fore are assistance systems that support the driver, including one that can decelerate the vehicle automatically and bring it to a halt when vehicles ahead are detected, as at traffic lights. A new fourth ‘soundscape’ makes the vehicle audible to occupants.
Other features of interest are:
- Towing capacity of 1,800kg (all-wheel drive) and 750 kg (rear-wheel drive).
- Marking a turning point in its class, overhangs and front-end assembly are kept compact.
- Wheels sizes from 19 to 22 inches are positioned flush with the outer edge of the body.
- Despite a large load volume and short rear overhang, its 0.25Cd value is helped by a flat windscreen, sweeping roofline and aerodynamic underbody spoilers fitted at the front axle to control airflow to the front wheels.
- Equipped with a multiplicity of innovative tech, comfort appointments and features – many of which originated in the range-topping EQS and its SUV derivative – its arrival marks another step in Mercedes-Benz’s drive to ‘lead in electric’ by having a battery-electric model in every market segment in which they are active.
Commenting, Ciaran Allen, sales manager for Mercedes-Benz passenger cars in Ireland said: “With its signature good looks and extensive array of tech and comfort fitments, we see the EQE SUV as an attractive proposition for sports utility vehicle owners seeking to combine perfection in terms of style and luxury with performance, all within a single model.”
