The 11th and final Mick O’Regan Memorial Motorcycle run was launched on Friday, July 14.
Set to take place on Saturday, August 12, the run will leave from Kit Roche’s Bar in Buttevant in aid of Pieta, the centre for prevention of suicide and self-harm.
This motorcycle run came about following the tragic death by suicide of a great friend of the organisers and out of this tragedy grew this amazing movement which has resulted in almost €200,000 being raised for suicide charities over the last 10 years.
Organisers are hopeful that the final year of the run will once again empower Pieta with the necessary funds to save many more lives.
Pieta has informed the organisers of the Mick O’Regan Memorial Motorcycle Run that their fundraising efforts have resulted in saving 200 lives.
They have also been informed that every time a life is lost to suicide, 70 other lives are adversely affected and so, as a result of the Mick O’Regan Run, 14,200 lives have been changed for the better.
“This is the great good that has resulted from the tragic loss of Mick O’Regan in 2012. He will always be missed but as a result of the positive effects of the Mick O’Regan Run, he will never be forgotten,” organisers of the run have stated.
On August 12 in Buttevant, the sign-in for the Mick O’Regan run will open at 10.30am with the run leaving at 12.30pm.
Entry is by donation, the organisers will provide teas and coffees at sign-in along with on-street entertainment before the run and a barbeque and a draw for spot prizes for those that return to Kit Roche’s Bar after the run.
There will also be a draw for a fabulous helmet to be drawn on the sign-in sheets, so the organisers want to remind all participants to please remember to sign in.
This year’s run promises to be very enjoyable and the organisers have selected a great motorcycling route taking in Mallow, Ballyhooly, Fermoy, Mitchelstown, Kilmallock, Charleville and back to Buttevant.
