Those who provide the wheels for the meals and all the other good people who help provide the hot meals delivery service in Fermoy were repaid in a small way for their kindness and selfless voluntary work in a special Christmas coffee morning held on Thursday morning last at the Fermoy Family Resource Centre.

The Meals on Wheels service operates from the centre, providing meals all year round, three days a week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Their in-house cook, Sharon Browne and her team of staff and volunteers ensure the meals and cooked, packed and are ready for delivery by their volunteer drivers. All products used in their meals are sourced and purchased locally.

The service is supported by the HSE. It was set up to provide nourishing meals for mainly elderly people, or those recovering from an illness or just out of hospital that are unable to prepare a proper cooked meal for themselves. Like many community services, they actively fundraise throughout the year to help defray the costs associated with running it.

Festive cheer was much in evidence last Thursday as all those volunteers got a pat on the back and thanks for their help throughout the year. There were plenty of baked treats and spot prizes going in an event that was enjoyed by all concerned.
