The operator of Amber Service Station in Fermoy is putting in a footpath from the premises to St Joseph’s Square, members of the Fermoy Electoral Area Committee were told at their monthly meeting on Tuesday.

Cllr Frank O’Flynn had tabled a motion calling on Cork County Council to put in the footpath in the interest of safety of pedestrians as he said there is heavy traffic in the area and it’s also being used as a pedestrian loop walk.

He was told by senior area engineer Brendan O’Gorman that it was a condition of a recent planning application that the service station operator put in the footpath. The work is about to commence. Public lighting will also be provided on it.

Cllr O’Flynn welcomed the news and Cllr Noel McCarthy complimented the developer, Dave Ryan, saying it would be of great benefit to people walking there.
