The past week has been a testing, demanding and sometimes traumatic time for management and employees of Mellerick's Pharmacy in Fermoy. At the height of last week's violent storm, the landmark Patrick Street store was struck by falling masonry that caused very extensive structural damage.
Thankfully, no one was hurt in the incident and despite having to temporarily vacate the premises, the good news for all concerned is that Mellerick's Pharmacy have relocated and re-opened. The move has been a short one, just across the road (next to Xtravision). Needless to say, there was a lot of hard work involved but as proprietor, Orla Mellerick explains, family members, neighbours, friends and the business community in Fermoy have all rallied round.
"We received a huge amount of assistance and we're grateful to the many individuals and businesses who helped out. Our staff in particular have been outstanding and thanks to their efforts, Mellerick's Pharmacy is up and running and very much open for business" she said.
Mellericks' many loyal customers have been very understanding and messages of support and goodwill have come from far and wide. As they familiarise themselves with their new surroundings, staff at Mellerick's are keen to point out that they will continue to operate their very high standards of customer care.
The challenges of the last week have proved the resilience of those who've overseen and helped run one of Fermoy's longest established pharmacies. Allied to this resilience is a collective determination - a determination to adjust, cope and ultimately overcome.
