Fourteen months ago, 13 residents of Crann Ard Estate in Fermoy were promised they could move into their new homes and still the wait continues.

The issue, which has been a hot topic for the past year, arose again at a recent meeting of the Northern Committee in Mallow, when Cllr Noel McCarthy called for the residents to be able to occupy their homes without further delay.

Cllr Frank O'Flynn acknowledged that this issue has come up in every meeting since last November, while Cllr McCarthy said that now near the end of February, the residents are no closer to knowing what's going on than they were 14 months ago.

"They are fed up to the gills at this stage, they don't know what's happening and it's so disappointing," Cllr McCarthy said.

Cllr McCarthy said that they should write to Minister Jan O'Sullivan about the issue, as something needs to be done to give the residents some much needed good news.

"We still have no Plan B, the residents are being moved from pillar to post," he said, while Cllr Frank O'Flynn seconded his motion, saying the people have now been left high and dry.

Division Manager, Moira Murrell told councillors that she understands that this is a difficult situation and that she is frustrated with the process.

She said that there were positive signs and she thought that the issues could have been resolved, but that they will now look at another approach.

Ms Murrell pointed out that it is not just a matter of releasing the bond, there is an awful lot of work involved after that point.

The manager added that they are seeking to resolve this, but some things are outside their control.

Before closing the issue to discussion, the manager said that she will undertake to try to set up a meeting with NABCO.
