The launch of the DVD of the re-enactment of the closing of the creamery took place at The Galtee View, Anglesboro recently. The re-enactment was written and produced by John and Margaret Ann McGrath of Lackendarra, in conjunction with Anglesboro Drama Group and the children of Anglesboro National School.
The re-enactment was staged as part of Anglesboro Harvest Fair 2013. At a later stage, families of the people who were on the original video, which was recorded on the last working day of the creamery in August 1981, were invited to the hall in Anglesboro to view that recording and share their memories, which are transcribed on the present DVD.
The interviews were conducted by local councillor, Eddie Ryan and taped and edited by Hilda McMahon of McMahon Studios, Ballyporeen. The whole re-enactment was sponsored by Clive Bidmeade, a grandson of the late Michael Ryan, one of the managers of Anglesboro Creamery.
Clive dedicated the DVD to the memory of 'The Manager Ryan' as he was popularly known. The DVD was officially launched by three of the manager’s grandsons - Clive Bidmeade, who travelled from Bermingham, Jamie Regan who travelled from London and Kevin Brien who travelled from Australia.
All were loud in their praise for the people who made the event possible. Patrick English acted as MC for the occasion and introduced the many speakers, which included Cllr Eddie Ryan, Frank O’Flynn, John McGrath, Dan McCarthy, Tom McGrath, Tom Hogan, John Allen and Liam Allen – originally from Anglesboro and also a former creamery manager. The three grandsons also spoke of their joy about the whole event.
Refreshments were served at the conclusion courtesy of Billy and Winnie Casey of The Galtee View Bar. The DVDs are on sale for €10 which represents excellent value for a sensational reflection on days gone by.
