The sun shone on Knockadea National School on Thursday last, as people flocked to the school for its open day to see what kind of oportunities the country school could offer their children. The school has been seeing a steady increase in enrolments and the incoming class in September will be the largest in a few years.
Throughout the evening, there was a host of entertainment, as parents of current pupils and those of prospective pupils were enthralled with stories, experiences and talents from the current youngsters at the school. There was no shortage of musical talent, as students amazed the crowd with tin whistle performances, a piano solo and even a bagpipe performance, while there was also a taste of Irish dancing.
VARIETY & CREATIVITY
As well as that, the smaller children enjoyed a teddy bear's picnic and there was a display of GAA. The school would also have their own school garden project, as well as being involved in a number of activities in the school and in the wider community.
All of the pupils had also made up their own scarecrow from different materials and named them - those present at the open day were treated to a little speech from each pupil, as they spoke confidently about the inspiration for their own creations.
Principal Aileen O'Dwyer thanked the parents' association for all of their help throughout the year and particularly for the open day. She also thanked the parents, grandparents and people from the wider community who support the national school.
