With social housing in high demand, local councillors have queried whether their recommendations are taken on board by council officials regarding housing allocations.

The topic was raised by local councillor James Tobin, who acknowledged that while he, as a councillor, could not allocate houses, he could make recommendations and requested that the council may come back to councillors with updates on the matter.

“Councillors never gave out houses. I’ve no houses to give to anybody, I don’t give out houses, but at the same time, I might make a recommendation or put in a good word for a person, which I am entitled to do, but I also think the officials should come back to the councillors,” Cllr Tobin said at Monday’s meeting of Dungarvan Lismore District meeting.
