Evidence of nitrate has been found within three tributaries of the river Bride – that's according to the Bride Project WaterBlitz 2021.
The European-wide citizen science initiative, supported by Dublin City University, took place from May 7 until May 10 and saw samples taken from the Flesk, the Douglas, and the Shanowenadrimina to determine an accurate reflection of the catchment.
Speaking with The Avondhu, Donal Sheehan of the Bride Project said that they became involved with the project because of their efforts to improve biodiversity and water quality.
“This is our second year doing it and we will be doing it for a number of years to establish the changes and hopefully, see improvements from year to year.
