House number signage has been erected in the Lios an Oir housing estate in Lismore, a move deemed necessary so that the emergency services would know where specific houses were located, in case of a fire or other emergency.
Initiated by Lismore Town Council, Councillor John Pratt, in their absence, followed the matter through. Following a request by Councillor John Pratt to Noel Healy, engineer, these signs were sourced and have been in place since Monday last.
Speaking to The Avondhu this week, Cllr Pratt said: “I know the residents will be happy that these decorative signs are now in place. Dog fouling is also a serious issue in the estate and it is my intention to source signs to highlight this issue also.”
OWNER RESPONSIBILITY
“The Tidy Towns have been very active on this issue and recently got plastic bag dispensers ‘Mutt Mitts’ wall mounted throughout the town. Unfortunately dog fouling is an ongoing issue throughout the county and it is time people took responsibility for their dogs while out walking and clean up after them”, he continued.
“A fine for not doing so is in place, but unless someone is willing to report people and follow it through the courts this will not happen. I am calling on dog walkers to take responsibility and pick up after their dogs”, the councillor concluded.
