While the Fermoy Local Electoral Area was showing to have the highest rate of Covid-19 per 110k population (549.4) in County Cork, this was balanced out somewhat with the good news that more than 90% of staff and over 95% of residents at Amberley Nursing Home have now received the first dose of the vaccination.
“We’re really happy, at least now we have some level of safety,” Teethu Thomas who is Director of Nursing at the home, told The Avondhu, adding that staff and residents were ‘very happy’ to receive the vaccine.
“It has been a very busy few days, but the HSE were brilliant. They were very supportive and well organised,” Nurse Thomas added.
The rollout of the vaccine took place in Amberley over the course of two days (Monday and Tuesday), with the second dose now to follow in 21 days time.
Fermoy Community Hospital is next on the provisional list locally to receive the first round of Covid-19 vaccinations on this Thursday.
West Waterford locations are then to follow with Padre Pio Nursing Home in Cappoquin to receive their vaccinations on January 21, followed by Lismore’s St Carthage's House on January 29.
