A hardworking committee, under the chairmanship of Timmy Flynn, have been beavering away for the last number of weeks finalising plans for the inaugural Fermoy Rose Festival.

Working on a completely voluntary capacity, this group have put together a programme of events that promises to lift everyone's spirits and create a real buzz in the town.

Speaking to The Avondhu at the festival launch in T.J. Goodtymes recently, Timmy, said that there was a lot of goodwill towards the project and people are very anxious to help out.

"It's a 4 day festival, starting on 3rd July and finishing on the 6th, while selecting the festival rose is a big part of proceedings, we've a lot of other attractions planned and the feedback to date has been very encouraging. The people of Fermoy are proud of their town and they want to see it projected in a positive way, a lot of individuals and groups have come on board and we're delighted with that" he says.

WHAT TO EXPECT

In between the eagerly anticipated festival rose pageant, there will be a road race, children's sports day, Teddy Bear's picnic, ball race, vintage displays, music and funfare. Combat sports are also to the fore and the public can look forward to demonstrations of kickboxing, karate and boxing (by members of Avondhu Boys & Girls Boxing Club).

LOOKING FORWARD TO IT ALREADY

The festival has already captured the imagination of townspeople in Fermoy and all age groups can't wait for the activities to start. Further festival information can be had from Timmy Flynn on 087-9595898.
