Encouraged by the success of last year's 'Gathering' event, residents of Hunter's Park in Castletownroche held an equally successful community party recently, all of which took place in the spacious green area that fronts this well maintained estate.

There was a sprinkling of rain during the course of the evening but this did little to dampen the enthusiasm, goodwill and sense of neighbourliness that runs deep in this closely knit estate on the outskirts of the village. Residents, past and present, joined with supporters and friends for this well organised celebration that included a prayer service by Fr Pat Scanlon and the release of balloons to remember deceased residents.

A great selection of food was served and party goers brought and consumed their own drink. Music also featured prominently with Edmond O'Gorman from nearby Killavullen doing the honours.

All age groups were accommodated with some younger members allowed to stay up past their normal bed time. Residents also extended invitations to family and friends abroad to join them with several taking up the offer. The approach of dusk didn't slow things down and a succession of singers took to the stage to perform their party pieces.

Organisers were quick to point out that the party wouldn't be possible without the complete backing of residents - residents who look after each other and who are justifiably proud to call Hunter's Park their home.
