Clear blue skies over Castletownroche last Sunday for a really enjoyable day's vintage that brought out a fine crowd to see all manner of vintage machinery, classic vehicles and a variety of stationary engines.
Once again, the popular car-boot sale venue proved to be a perfect location for this very substantial event that paid tribute to the legacy of Harry Ferguson and his range of brilliantly engineered tractors.
The rally catered for vintage enthusiasts, car boot fans, animals lovers and of course children who are the paying customers of the future. The weather, the atmosphere, the company and the craic were of the highest order and this made for plenty of satisfied clients.
It was a major logistical operation, however, good team work between, land owners, stewards, local volunteers and gardai ensured everything fell into place and the programme of events ran smoothly. There was a good turn out from all the surrounding villages and as usual you had vintage fans who travelled long distances to see what was on offer.
There was also a spin off for the businesses of Castletownroche and overall the rally gave an economic lift to the area. Helicopters may not be classed as vintage, however, they generated a lot of interest and there was no shortage of adventurous individuals who wanted to be taken up for a spin.
As Sunday afternoon drifted into Sunday evening the crowds began to disperse and head for home - all left with great memories of a fantastic day out in picturesque Castletownroche.
