Set up in turbulent times, Dairygold, (formerly Mitchelstown Co-Op) has weathered many a storm and remains at the heart of economic activity in north Cork.

Key to its success over the years has been the input of staff and the contribution of those selected to represent their areas on regional committees.

There have been some great committee people over the decades and on Friday night last in The Firgrove Hotel, Mitchelstown, several of these individuals, who are stepping down from their posts were honoured. Those who received presentations included: Tom Coffey (Darragh), Michael Lenihan (Anglesboro) and Terrance O'Donnell (Kildorrery), along with departing Dairygold managers, Cllr. Frank O'Flynn (Glanworth) and Noel Coughlan (Mitchelstown). Other Dairygold regional committee volunteers who were honoured but couldn't attend included: Tony Quinlan (Mitchelstown), Michael Martin (Anglesboro), William Lee (Knockadea) and Nelius Fogarty (Ballindangan). A special presentation was made to Ann Leahy, who accepted on behalf of her late husband, Phil (Ballyhooly).

All these men were formally congratulated and presented with pieces of crystal by Pat O'Keeffe (Ballindangan) and Tom Feeney (Araglin) who shared MC duties for the night and did an excellent job.
