The inclement weather experienced on Saturday afternoon was no deterrent to the hundreds who turned out in Fermoy and Ballylanders to make the stance against Irish Water and the introduction of water charges.

In Fermoy, an estimated 300 plus followed the Thomas Kent Pipe Band from Chapel Square to Pearse Square and heard Pat Conroy say that the protest that started with a drip in Cork, had now built into 'a tsunami' all over the country. Mr Conroy said it was 'a good day for democracy' when people will come out in this kind of weather to tell the Government they've had enough.

Meanwhile in Ballylanders, chants of 'Enda Kenny, not a penny' filled the village as the colourful parade made its way through the main street. Cllr Marie Sheehy (Sinn Fein) told those gathered that Irish Water had been a fiasco from the start and described the handling of it by the Government as 'a disgrace'. She urged locals to attend a special meeting of Limerick County Council on Thursday where the issue is to be debated.
