Heading into the Karaoke World Championships last weekend, Castletownroche singer Shannon Murphy didn't really know what to expect, but she was delighted to have been placed fourth in the world in the prestigious competition.

Despite being up against karaoke singers from across the globe, Shannon said that she wasn't nervous, but instead tried to savour the experience and enjoy every moment.

"I was just trying to keep calm, enjoy my performances and sing my best. I had some butterflies in my stomach, but it was great to have a full table of people cheering for Ireland," she said.

Shannon was also delighted with messages of support on Facebook, as people were watching online and following her progress across the weekend.

She came across the competition almost by accident, when she entered a heat on a whim and never expected to get this far, but she said that her confidence on stage has grown since she featured on The Voice of Ireland.

While she would have loved to have come first, it seemed that four was the lucky number for Shannon, as she also came fourth in The Voice.

"It was the best couple of days of my life and I got to meet people from all over the world," she added.

Shannon said that she would love to do it again, as it was a really fun experience.
